What is quality assurance?
The field of quality assurance ensures that pharmaceutical products meet high standards of quality by detecting and preventing defects and mistakes during the development, manufacture, quality control and inspection of drugs.
What do quality assurance jobs involve?
Quality assurance jobs in the pharmaceutical industry involve maintaining and improving the quality of manufactured and distributed products, whilst adhering to different practice standards. Pharma quality control jobs vary from day to day, depending on the function and level of the role. However, all individuals are required to adhere primarily to the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, as well as Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards.
The typical responsibilities are to provide GMP training regulations to employees, review and approve quality of documentation, maintain robust quality management systems (QMS), perform product quality reviews according to regulatory requirements, carry out failure investigations, put preventative actions in place, and perform audits to identify and solve non-compliance issues.
Candidates are required to be educated to degree level in a relevant scientific subject. Previous and significant pharmaceutical industry experience within a quality control role is often required. Significant manufacturing experience, knowledge of pharmaceutical GMP, and validation within quality assurance are also common requirements.
