Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

One of the biggest biopharmaceutical companies in the world is looking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Zuchwil, Switzerland on a contract basis.

Job Role:

• To support the design and delivery of models, drawings and associated design verification, including functional and risk analysis activities, of medical devices developed as part of a time critical project.
• Delivery of 3D-CAD modelling and detail in accordance to ISO/ASME and company standards including the use and understanding of, for example, geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing and weld specification.
• Expected to work closely with Product Development Engineers, project managers, other mechanical design engineers and external vendors.
• Required to work within our local and global systems to manage documentation in a compliant manner.
• Take ownership for design commitments, delivering to agreed timescales in line with project plans
• Proactively manage design-related engineering changes

Role Requirements:

• Project timelines are strict, therefore excellent time management and ability to deal with challenging deliverable is essential.
• Communication and negotiation skills are also essential to facilitate timely approval and checking routes.
• Competency in the design for manufacture of plastic injection moulded parts and/or medical devices will be an advantage.
• Ability to design, perform and verify engineering calculations and simulations that verify detailed designs and minimise physical testing
• Possess a good understanding of stainless steels and polymers with the ability to rationalise appropriate selection criteria
• Understand the limitations of common manufacturing processes and inspection techniques
• Ability to work without supervision
• Possess a thorough understanding of the product development process, with a grasp of the specific requirements applicable to medical devices being advantageous
• Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma methodology would also be beneficial
