Proclinical is working with an oncology-focused biopharmaceutical company that is seeking a Medical Lead to be based in Sweden on a permanent basis.
This Medical Lead, Oncology role will serve as the primary medical resource in the Nordic territory capable of conducting high level scientific and strategic interactions with external thought leaders as well as internal company customers.
Job Responsibilties:
- Develops Medical Affairs strategies for the region in line with International Medical Affairs strategy and overall company strategic imperatives
- Collaborates with Country Lead and international Medical Affairs colleagues to set and drive medical tactics in the Nordics
- Ensures achievement of Medical Affairs goals in the territory
- Contributes towards the commercial plans for the Nordics, providing the medical input to help achieve organizational goals
- Provides people management for the Scientific Advisors and any additional Medical Affairs resources in the Nordics, providing coaching and actively developing people
- Contributes to broader business strategy in the Nordics and ensures that the company acts in an ethical, compliant way with regards promotion of our oncology products
- Responsible for Medical Affairs budget in the Nordics
- Leads thought leader development for the organization in the territory by fostering mutually productive relationships with HCPs & key decision makers across different types of healthcare organizations including: clinical research, group purchasing organizations in the areas of medical education, healthcare systems, and health technology assessment (HTA) bodies
- Attends & participates in medical/scientific meetings & conferences for the purpose of maintaining clinical/scientific expertise & providing strategic insights into emerging scientific data & healthcare trends
- Supports Market Access activities by providing scientific expertise for various stakeholders
- Leads efforts across Medical Affairs to keep abreast of latest scientific, disease state, and healthcare landscape information and uses this information to provide value to both external and internal stakeholders
Skills and Requirements:
- Proven ability to manage and develop people to successful results.
- Setting standards and holding team and others accountable for their performance and behaviour in order to support high quality outcomes.
- Encourages input from team to make key decisions while ensuring final decisions are reached quickly and effectively.
- Meaningful prior achievements as a Medical Science Liaison / Scientific Advisor in Medical Affairs in the (bio)pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrable experience in the development and medical affairs support of oncology therapeutics.
- Proven relationship-building skills, both internally and externally with key stakeholders and opinion leaders in the oncology arena.
- Experience with and understanding of the drug development process, including scientific understanding of basic physiology, pharmacology/biology, pharmacokinetics, and the role of preclinical studies in drug development.
- Ability to maintain scientific credibility while being commercially supportive, and to communicate scientific results appropriately.
- Demonstrated business acumen, able to plan and manage budgets
- Strong project management skills.
- Highly effective communication skills in English (and any other of the region languages) that demonstrates confidence and optimism, enabling the development of strong relationships internally and externally with executive level leaders.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong formal presentation skills.
- Shows a high degree of emotional intelligence, displaying candour and integrity at all times.
- Ability to manage complexity, ambiguity and paradoxes.
- Clinical/science undergraduate degree
- Minimum 5 years of pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience in Medical Affairs
- Minimum 2 years as an Oncology Medical Scientific Liaison or field-based Medical/Scientific Advisor role
- Previous experience of managing people together with demonstrable skills
- Excellent understanding of healthcare systems and HCPs in the geography
- Experience leading projects and interacting with cross-functional teams is needed
- Fluent English for business purposes
- Advanced, doctoral level degree: MD, PharmD or PhD
- Clinical experience in Oncology (3+ years)
- Good knowledge in health economics and outcomes research with customers is desirable, as well as demonstrable business acumen from previous experience
