Clinical-stage biotech, search for regulatory affairs lead

Case study

The overview

Our partner, a privately owned British clinical-stage biotechnology company with R&D operations in Maryland and Pennsylvania, USA, researches and develops biological drugs to treat cancer, infectious and autoimmune diseases using soluble T-cell receptor technology. We partnered with them to help them hire a regulatory affairs lead with strong biologics registration experience.

The challenge

We were asked to support the hiring of a regulatory affairs lead to replace a long-term consultant whom we had also helped them hire.

The main challenge was that they were looking for a regulatory professional who not only had oncology therapeutic experience, but also a background within the infectious disease space, as the role would take on dual responsibility following the departure of their consultant.

The solution

Following a market mapping exercise and headhunting project, a shortlist of 8 candidates was presented, and after a streamlined and efficient interview process, two candidates were identified as strong potential hires. Following on from a final call with the CEO; one of the candidates was selected for hire.

However, as with all good candidates, the individual in question had another very attractive offer to consider on the West Coast that came with the chance to work with a former mentor, was a fully remote, and offered a strong financial package. This was a serious challenge to overcome but the fact that the candidate would be able to work within infectious diseases alongside their core area of oncology, won the day for our partner.

The outcome

This was the first full time hire for the organisation within the RA team in the US following on from the RA consultant hire we had previously made.

Owing to the very strong relationship we have with the hiring manager, we were able to streamline and expedite the process and complete the placement within approximately four weeks.

Our successful process management and rapid turnaround times have helped to further cement a positive working relationship with the company and has led to a successful partnership across multiple business units such as commercial and medical affairs.
