Proclinical is seeking a Principal Engineer II - Research Ops to support external engineering projects in Basel, Switzerland. This role focuses on identifying and implementing technical solutions for process and laboratory challenges, optimizing existing systems, and managing engineering projects from inception to handover. The position requires a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving in a non-GMP environment, with a focus on aseptic and low bioburden processes.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with process experts to identify technical solutions for process-related or laboratory setup challenges.
- Develop technical requirements, such as equipment specifications or system requirements, for proposed solutions.
- Identify and engage with vendors, suppliers, and partners to develop technical solution proposals.
- Drive rapid prototyping of solutions, including the use of 3D printing when necessary.
- Prepare cost estimates, timelines, and project plans for technical solutions, ensuring alignment with requirements.
- Review and approve engineering documentation, including drawings, layouts, and datasheets.
- Manage engineering projects, ensuring compliance with technical, HSE, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct inspections, FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities for technical solutions.
- Optimize local infrastructure and lab facilities as needed.
- Address project deficiencies and deviations with suppliers and partners.
- Prepare and hand over technical documentation and solutions to process experts.
Key Skills and Requirements:
- Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent).
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of the local language is a plus.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, food, or cosmetics processing industries.
- Familiarity with suspension-like systems and protein-containing products.
- Understanding of aseptic or bioburden-controlled processes.
- Knowledge of ATEX guidelines and Swiss HSE requirements for handling organic solvents.
- Expertise in scale-up/scale-out approaches and CAD design, including 3D printing.
- Strong project management, negotiation, and planning skills.
- Team-oriented with excellent communication and self-coordination abilities.
- Creative and innovative mindset with a hands-on approach to technical problem-solving.
