Maintenance Engineering Technician - Contract - Cambridge, MA

Proclinical is seeking a Maintenance Engineering Technician to join a dynamic team in the US. This position involves hands-on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and collaboration with service vendors to maintain high-priority equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will support the maintenance and calibration of critical laboratory instruments, ensuring smooth operations in a fast-paced biotechnology environment.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience maintaining biological research or analytical instruments such as liquid handlers, plate readers, PCR systems, flow cytometers, or imaging systems.
  • Knowledge of pipetting system calibration, fluidics troubleshooting, optical system upkeep, and cell culture equipment maintenance.
  • Familiarity with biological safety and containment protocols.
  • Strong documentation skills and experience working with CMMS platforms.
  • Experience in a research, clinical, or production lab setting with demonstrated independence in troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

Bonus Points For:

  • Direct experience with CMMS platforms like Maximo, eMaint, MaintainX, or Fiix.
  • Prior experience authoring or executing IQ-OQ-PQ in regulated lab environments (e.g., GxP, ISO).
  • Vendor management experience, including coordinating service contracts.
  • Exposure to robotic automation platforms or integrated workcells.
  • Comfort with shift-based operations supporting 24/7 lab environments.

The Maintenance Engineering Technician's responsibilities will be:

  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) procedures on laboratory instruments per standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform instrument calibrations and support installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) for new equipment, repairs, and re-qualifications.
  • Act as the first responder for instrument alarms, failures, and performance issues, performing in-scope repairs and escalating complex issues as needed.
  • Document incidents, repairs, and out-of-tolerance conditions in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and initiate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) when required.
  • Coordinate scheduling and on-site visits with service vendors, track service records, and manage spare parts inventory for critical instruments.
  • Contribute to tracking mean time between failures (MTBF) and downtime, identifying recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in developing and refining maintenance engineering SOPs and work instructions as part of a growing team.

Compensation:

  • $30.00 - $38. Per Hour
