Senior Manufacturing Scientist (Downstream)

Our client, a leading Biopharmaceutical organisation, is currently seeking to hire a Senior Manufacturing Scientist (Downstream) to be based in Stevenage on a permanent basis. The purpose of the Senior Manufacturing Scientist (Downstream) role is to technically lead the Downstream Vector MS&T function within the wider Manufacturing department providing a 'GMP experienced' link between development and manufacturing.

Key responsibilities include:

• Technical leadership of the Downstream Vector MS&T function
• Coordinate the tech transfer of new vector processes from development into manufacturing (receiving party) and feedback experience from GMP manufacture into Process Development
• Interface with external manufacturing organisations providing technical knowledge and external tech transfer support for CMO Management function
• In conjunction with the leadership from Process Development and Manufacturing provide the strategic direction for vector bioprocessing to drive increased process optimisation, process understanding and decreased COGS
• Provide required support for defining vector processes in regulatory filings and support the development of the control strategy

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following minimum criteria:

• BSc or higher qualification in relevant area.
• Deep and extensive industrial experience with bioprocess GMP manufacturing and/or development in the gene therapy, vaccine and/or biopharmaceutical fields will be required.
• Experience with bioprocessing of viral vectors would be a significant advantage
• Extensive experience with tech transfer and scale-up of bioprocesses
• Knowledge of and experience with relevant bioprocess equipment
• Bioprocess experience with downstream and downstream unit operations
• AKTA chromatography (i.e.: AKTA Pilot; AKTA Ready)
• Tangential flow filtration
• Depth filtration, clarification, filtration
• Filtration (Normal Flow and Tangential Flow)
• Closed systems
• Impurity clearance, DNA reduction steps
• Interfacing with external Contract Manufacturing Organisations to provide support to technical support to CMO management will be key and therefore prior experience is needed
