Proclinical is partnering with an international pharmaceutical company to advertise a vacancy for a Principal Scientist - Fibrotic Remodelling position. Based in Slough, this vacancy represents an exciting opportunity to work with a leading organisation dedicated to supporting patients by creating a new generation of therapies.
The Principal Scientist will provide in vivo pharmacology expertise in models of fibrotic diseases across one or multiple organs. They will run studies in various pharmacology models of fibrotic disease and act as the pharmacology lead on multiple projects where in vivo evaluation of a novel therapeutic is warranted. Furthermore, the Principal Scientist will work within multidisciplinary protect teams to coordinate studies in a time critical manner. They will evaluate fibrotic tissues at the histology, protein, and molecular level.
The role will require maintenance of a home office personal licence and he/she will ultimately be expected to hold relevant home office project licences. There will be an absolute requirement to develop new models and introduce various technologies to test therapeutic pathways such as siRNA delivery and hydrodynamic transfection. They will need to align with key internal stakeholders across the company's research sites to define specific studies, approaches and priorities, while working closely with external collaborators.
Job Responsibilities:
- Acting as the pharmacology lead on multiple project teams.
- Running renal, pulmonary, hepatic, dermal, and gastric models of fibrotic modelling which will be treated with novel therapeutic small molecules, antibodies, or nucleic acids.
- Coordinating in vivostudies across the fibrosis portfolio to ensure high efficiency and timely delivery of studies.
- Performing in depth analysis of tissues to assess degree of fibrotic remodelling and the subsequent effect of a therapeutic intervention.
- Presenting study data to project teams and higher management.
- Mentoring and training junior pharmacologists.
- Supporting in vitro fibrosis models.
- Developing technology.
- Overseeing Home Office project license applications.
Skills and Requirements:
- A PhD, or equivalent experience, in a life science discipline with a strong background in fibrotic remodelling.
- Current in vivo skills and a home office personal license.
- Practical experience of both surgical and chemically induced models of fibrotic disease.
- Some years of expertise in an industrial setting (biotechnology or pharma) or have at least 5 years post-doctoral experience in an academic setting. An experienced degree level technician with extensive experience in a relevant fibrotic disease will also be considered.
- Strong scientific and technical competencies in the area of fibrotic remodelling in either lung, liver, skin or gut. Ideally, but not essential is expertise across 2 or more organs.
- A strong publication record in fibrotic diseases is essential.
- Direct experience and track record of successfully running in vivo pharmacology studies in lung, liver, skin or gut with measurement of organ function.
- Strong tissue histology knowledge with experience of quantification of disease by high content image analysis
- Demonstrable multitasking, project management, and execution skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, including communication, presentation, persuasion, and influence.
- Good organisational skills, including efficiency, punctuality, and collaboration in a team environment.
- Proficiency with computer skills, such as MS Office.
