DeltaV Engineer (Pharmaceutical Industry)
Proclinical is seeking a skilled DeltaV Engineer to join our pharmaceutical manufacturing and automation team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to ensure reliable and compliant operation of automated processes in a GMP-regulated environment.
This position can be based either in Cork or Dublin, Ireland.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design & Configuration
- Develop, configure, and maintain DeltaV automation solutions to support pharmaceutical manufacturing processes (batch, continuous, utilities).
- Design control strategies, recipes, modules, phases, and I/O configurations according to process and compliance requirements.
System Maintenance & Support
- Provide day-to-day support of DeltaV systems to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
- Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for system- or process-related issues.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all automation activities comply with GMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and other regulatory standards.
- Create and maintain system documentation including Functional Specifications, Design Specifications, Change Controls, and SOPs.
Project Execution
- Lead or support automation-related projects such as system upgrades, expansions, or technology transfers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (process engineering, validation, QA, IT, and manufacturing).
Validation & Testing
- Develop and execute test protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ) for DeltaV systems.
- Support validation activities during new equipment installations and software modifications.
Continuous Improvement
- Implement best practices for system performance, cybersecurity, and lifecycle management.
- Recommend and implement system upgrades and enhancements to improve efficiency and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or biotech environment.
- Strong understanding of batch control (ISA-88 / S88 standards).
- Experience with automation system design, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and validation.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in DeltaV configuration tools (Control Studio, Recipe Studio, Diagnostics).
- Knowledge of automation networks, cybersecurity practices, and Windows server environments.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Attention to detail and commitment to compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DeltaV certification(s) from Emerson.
- Experience with interfacing DeltaV to other systems (MES, PI Historian, SCADA, ERP).
- Familiarity with other automation platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and data integrity practices.
- Previous involvement in greenfield facility startup or large-scale system migrations.
