An opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader (Target Validation and Disease Positioning) to lead, mentor and develop a team of cell biologists. A key aspect of the role will be the development of future Target Validation and Disease Positioning capability and expertise. You will have oversight of a themed area of biology and/or lead one or more projects and play a leading role in interactions with our academic and industry partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Formal line management of a team of cancer cell biologists - objective setting, development plans and performance evaluation
  • Providing leadership for the design and execution of complex experiments, ensuring scientific excellence of data, in line with data integrity policies, delivered to support achievement of alliance goals
  • Maintain a good team environment with fully engaged staff
  • Drive innovation and enhance the expertise of Target Validation capability through internal scientific/ technological development and external collaborations
  • Ensure the compliance of all staff with local safety, health and environment policies
  • Collaborative resource management to support overall alliance portfolio goals and maximise impact and delivery
  • Direct project/ alliance biology strategy and ensure delivery of research plans
  • Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams to validate targets and support drug discovery activities across alliances
  • Build, maintain and grow relationships with partners and key stakeholders
  • Deliver clear verbal and written messages through appropriate medium to key stakeholders
  • Provide external visibility through publications and conference presentations

Skills and Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field and post doc experience or equivalent in oncology research
  • Track record of delivery in an industrial setting in the field of target validation and/ or late stage drug discovery
  • Proven leadership skills within line management
  • Academic independence and technical expertise in genetic manipulation, proof of concept and mechanism of action studies and bespoke cellular assay development
  • Strong interpersonal skills
