Are you looking to make an impact with your innovation? We are working with a well-established pharmaceutical company to recruit for a knowledgeable Scientist.
Proclinical is seeking a dedicated Scientist to focus on the development and management of transgenic models, ensuring genetic stability and animal welfare while adhering to the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement). This position requires expertise in mouse genetics, colony management, and collaboration with external partners to support therapeutic innovation.
Please note that to be considered for this role you must have the right to work in this location or hold an EU passport.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee external Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and internal breeding facilities to ensure operational excellence.
- Develop and implement optimized breeding strategies focusing on quality, timelines, and cost efficiency while minimizing surplus animals.
- Act as the primary contact for external vivarium managers, addressing issues such as phenotype drift or health status.
- Serve as an internal expert for generating new mouse lines using advanced techniques.
- Define and standardize official nomenclature for newly generated lines in accordance with international guidelines.
- Maintain detailed records of genotypes and molecular validation data, including NGS, Southern Blot, and qPCR.
- Monitor the health and welfare of experimental cohorts, defining humane endpoints and assessing unexpected phenotypes in new transgenic lines.
- Establish and implement standards for housing and care of contract-bred animals at external partners.
- Collaborate with therapeutic area experts to provide initial phenotypic characterization and validate model utility.
Key Skills and Requirements:
- Advanced degree (PhD) in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in mouse genetics and colony management.
- Proven expertise in generating mouse models.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple external vendor relationships.
- Familiarity with FELASA guidelines and animal welfare legislation.
- Proficient in written and verbal English; German is a plus.
