A vacancy has arisen for a Principal Scientist/Associate Director-Small Molecule Drug with an innovative pharmaceutical enterprise in Shanghai. The company, which commercialises life science research, is committed to the development of therapeutic monoclonal antibody and small molecule drugs and prides itself on having several research projects currently in the preclinical stage that own their rights of intellectual property. This vacancy is an exciting opportunity to work with a company whose core R&D and management team members are composed of senior executives and scientists from the United States and China, with extensive experience in world-class biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead small molecule drug discovery effort to provide biology assay support to advance current projects in the pipeline.
- Design and perform new biology/pharmacology assays in vitro (enzymatic, biochemical, and cellular assays) to evaluate potency, selectivity, and mechanism of action of small molecule compounds.
- Design and execute in vivo pharmacology studies to evaluate POC efficacy and PK/PD correlations of small molecule drug candidates in animal models in oncology and immunology areas.
- Search and evaluate literature to understand rationale and mechanism of potential small molecule drug targets.
- Identify and propose new drug targets in therapeutic areas of interest and initiate new small molecule drug projects to expand current pipeline.
- Provide scientific and technical support in small molecule drug discovery to internal colleagues and external collaborators/CROs. Guide and manage junior team members to advance on-going projects.
- Work closely with cross functional teams, academic collaborators, and CROs to ensure productive collaborations.
- Participate in, and present experimental results at internal project review meetings, and scientific symposia and conferences.
- Provide technical support in searching and evaluating external in-licensing programs.
- Work closely with senior management team for people development and resource allocation.
Skills and Requirements:
- D. in biology, immunology, biochemistry or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in small molecule drug discovery in biotech or pharmaceutical industry in immunology and/or oncology areas.
- Hands-on expertise in performing biology assays to support small molecule drug discovery projects research including, but not limited to enzymatic, cellular, and pharmacology assays in vitro and in vivo.
- Fluency in oral and written English and Chinese (Mandarin) is required.
- Prior knowledge and expertise in small molecule drug discovery in immunology and oncology areas is highly desirable.
- Additional experience in translational medicine and early clinical development will be a plus.
- Demonstrable multitasking, project management, and execution skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, including communication, presentation, persuasion, and influence.
- Good organisational skills, including efficiency, punctuality, and collaboration in a team environment.
- Proficiency with computer skills, such as MS Office.
