Be the on‑site piping expert driving safe, compliant execution on a fast‑track NAPI build.

Proclinical is seeking an experienced Contract Piping Engineer to support a New Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (NAPI) project within an existing pharmaceutical facility in Germany.

This is a hands-on, site-based contract role, requiring an immediate start, focused on piping design support, site execution, installation oversight, and construction close out in a brownfield, GMP regulated environment. The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering, Construction, EHS, Quality, and CQV teams to ensure piping systems are delivered safely, compliantly, and right first time.

Fluent German and English are mandatory due to site coordination, contractor supervision, and documentation requirements.

Responsibilities:

Piping Engineering & Site Support

  • Provide day-to-day piping engineering support during construction and installation phases.
  • Support detailed design interpretation, constructability reviews, and resolution of technical queries on site.
  • Ensure piping systems are installed in accordance with approved P&IDs, isometrics, specifications, and project standards.
  • Act as the onsite piping SME for process, clean utility, and support piping systems.
  • Support material selection and compliance for GMP, corrosion resistance, cleanability, and pressure requirements.
  • Liaise with design offices to close out redlines, field changes, and technical clarifications.

Brownfield & GMP Environment Execution

  • Support piping installation in an operational pharmaceutical facility, managing interfaces and access constraints.
  • Ensure GMP requirements are upheld during installation, including cleanliness control, segregation, flushing, passivation, and protection of systems.
  • Coordinate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams to minimise disruption to live operations.
  • Ensure adherence to permit to work systems and site procedures.

Contractor Oversight & Installation Quality

  • Support and oversee piping contractors and subcontractors on site.
  • Monitor installation quality, workmanship, and compliance with specifications and codes.
  • Support inspection and test activities including weld inspections, NDT, pressure testing, flushing, and passivation.
  • Assist with resolution of piping non-conformances and site quality issues.
  • Participate in walkdowns, punch listing, and system completion activities.

EHS & Safe Execution

  • Ensure piping works are executed safely and in compliance with German EHS regulations and site standards.
  • Review and support contractor risk assessments and method statements related to piping activities.
  • Actively promote safe working practices across all piping scopes.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety walks, and daily coordination meetings.

Documentation, Testing & Handover

Support piping documentation including:

  • Redline / as built drawings
  • Test packs and pressure test documentation
  • Weld documentation and material traceability
  • Turnover and handover dossiers
  • Support mechanical completion and system handover to commissioning and CQV teams.
  • Support readiness for IQ/OQ activities where relevant to piping systems.

Cross Functional Collaboration

Work closely with:

  • Construction Manager and discipline supervisors
  • Process, Mechanical, and CQV Engineers
  • EHS and Quality teams
  • Contractors, welders, inspectors, and vendors
  • Communicate clearly in German and English with onsite teams and international stakeholders.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Degree or trade qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Strong background in construction management within pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience delivering brownfield projects in live GMP facilities.
  • Familiarity with API or NAPI projects is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary contractors on fast-paced capital projects.
  • Solid understanding of GMP construction requirements and EHS leadership.
  • Strong onsite leadership, organizational skills, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in dynamic environments.
