Proclinical is seeking a Senior Scientist to support the development of clinical assays for biomarkers at a market-leading medical devices organisation. This role involves working on various projects to expand the portfolio of proteomic and phosphoproteomic assays and develop them into new clinical products. The position is based full-time at Alderley Park, Macclesfield, and involves collaboration with both the LC-MS/MS team and the product development team.
Responsibilities:
- Develop targeted LC-MS methods on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer to quantify phosphopeptide biomarkers.
- Devise strategies for normalization and quality control to ensure test accuracy and reliability.
- Collaborate with the product development team and quality manager to establish appropriate systems, monitoring, and documentation.
- Author and contribute to regulatory submissions, technical protocols, and reports.
- Maintain and calibrate LC-MS/MS systems, prepare buffers, and ensure quality control samples are run.
- Document maintenance, calibrations, and QC work for reporting purposes.
- Implement process improvements and contribute to team success.
- Support lab-based team duties during colleagues' absences and additional pressure periods.
Key Skills and Requirements:
- PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant or STEM-based subject.
- Hands-on experience with high-end LC-MS/MS systems, including calibration, maintenance, and quality control.
- Specific experience with triple quadrupole mass spectrometers and developing targeted methods.
- Expertise in developing clinical assays using LC-MS/MS proteomic technologies.
- Proficiency in interrogating LC-MS/MS raw data using vendor software (e.g., Thermo's Xcalibur/Freestyle/Chromeleon, or SciexOS).
- Strong communication, teamwork, organizational, and time management skills.
- High degree of personal motivation and willingness to learn new skills and undertake relevant training.
