As the head of the function, you will report directly to and be a key strategic partner with the VP of Medical Affairs, partner closely with cross-functional partners (such as clinical development, corporate communications, commercial, RWE) as well as serve a key role on the Medical Affairs Leadership Team (along with the Head of Field Medical and Head of Medical Directors). As a leader to the Scientific Communications team, you will oversee a team of Publication and Medical communication leads/subject matter experts who are responsible for leading scientific communications for each of our three potential therapies and the franchise area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leading, inspiring and serving as a role model for the entire Scientific Communications team who are in turn responsible for partnering closely with the Clinical Development and Medical Affairs Medical Directors to translate scientific, clinical, and real-world evidence data into impactful scientific communications deliverables for healthcare professionals and payers
  • Representing the Scientific Communications function in key updates for the Medical Affairs Leadership Team and/or via interactions with company leadership
  • Overseeing the management and timely execution of scientific communications plans for each of the three specific therapies to ensure alignment with the medical affairs objectives, medical launch plans and overall brand strategy.
  • Partnering closely with key cross-functional leaders to ensure appropriate resourcing (both budget and workload) for timely delivery of brand publication plans
  • Providing scientific communication input and review of corporate materials
  • Serving as the subject matter expert of best publication practices and industry standards to ensure company publications comply with all external codes and ethical standards. As needed, drive the adoption of new publication guidelines, standards, processes and technologies

Skills and Requirements:

  • An Advanced Degree (PhD preferred; MD or PharmD) in biological sciences or other area of life sciences required
  • 10+ years of experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company with at least 7 years in a Scientific Communication function required
  • Experience managing direct reports required with demonstration of a proven ability to effectively collaborate yet be independently motivated to help the team achieve key deliverables
  • Expert knowledge of ICMJE recommendations, Good Publication Practices and significant experience in healthcare compliance related to publications required
  • Significant experience working with key, external HCPs on the development of manuscript and other scientific content development
  • Prior launch experience and experience in rare diseases, gene therapy is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making across multiple levels of an organization
