Associate Director, Non-Viral Delivery

Proclinical is seeking an Associate Director of Non-Viral Delivery to join the Gene Therapy team of a biopharma company in Cambridge, MA who are developing innovative gene therapies across multiple disease areas.

Job Responsibilities:

• You will lead a team of scientist to build the Non Viral-Chemical team to contribute to our collaboration of Non Viral gene delivery for therapeutic programs across multiple therapy areas and technology development projects.
• Together with the extended leadership team, you will incorporate Non Viral-chemical gene therapy strategy to build the gene therapy pipeline.
• You will be the expert of Non Viral-chemical gene delivery technologies that are based on different type of chemical materials for delivery of DNA and RNA cargos.
• You will apply hands-on experience and mentor team members in generating novel Non Viral-chemical gene therapy vectors candidates. Source Non Viral-chemical delivery vehicle raw materials from reliable vendors that could lead to in-house formulation of Non Viral-chemical DNA gene therapy vectors.
• You will be the expert to critically evaluate external Gene therapy therapeutic assets and enabling technologies and provide comprehensive evaluation from technical and strategic perspectives and establish research plans.
• Provide leadership and contribute to decisions related to external studies, assessing the technical feasibility, contribute to experimental designs that would yield meaningful outcome that would allow the making of data-driven go/no-go recommendation.
• You will attend relevant scientific conferences and stay on top of literature publication to remain current in relevant research areas.
• Develop organizational culture and capabilities and manage projects under a demanding timeline while providing guidance to a team of scientists.
• Manage resources and budget planning for your area of focus..
• Follow compliance of documentation in electronic lab notebook and author scientific reports that supports internal documentation and regulatory submissions.

Skills and Requirements:

• PHD degree in a scientific discipline with 7+ years of research experience, including 5 years of industry and managerial experience.
• Experience in non-viral chemical gene delivery of DNA and RNA cargo.
• Experience leading an external collaboration (academic and industry) involving design of study plan, oversees execution and frequent evaluation of results to provide decision recommendations. Demonstrate successful go/no-go decision in asset and technologies in-licensing.
• Understanding of compliance and work with external collaborators with a mindset of documentation requirement needed for further use of data in future regulatory filing. Experience in leading and involvement in successful technology and data transfer from external partner to internalize projects.
• Attend relevant scientific conferences and stay on top of literature publication to stay current in relevant research.
• Conduct business travel (15-20%), including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.
• Available to participate in meetings/teleconferences that accommodate time zones outside of the US.
