Proclinical is seeking a UK VAT Accountant for a contract role based in Liverpool. This position is part of the Tax COE Europe team and focuses on managing VAT reporting compliance for various European and international markets. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with internal and external deadlines, providing advice on VAT-related queries, and staying updated on local VAT legislation.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare VAT returns (monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, or annual) and other indirect tax reports using Excel or tax preparation tools.
  • Obtain necessary approvals for VAT submissions, follow up on payment requests, and archive documentation post-submission.
  • Reconcile VAT General Ledger and address any issues or open items.
  • Reconcile GL sales to reported VAT sales and resolve discrepancies.
  • Address VAT compliance queries from the business as needed.
  • Support the preparation of VAT requirements documents and other related materials.
  • Collaborate with the Tax Technology team to test and implement VAT requirements.
  • Monitor VAT legislation for relevant updates and changes.
  • Assist in maintaining VAT codes and tables within the accounting system.
  • Provide support during VAT audits and liaise with tax authorities.
  • Contribute to standardization, automation, continuous improvement, and risk management strategies.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Proven experience in VAT compliance within a multi-national tax environment.
  • Familiarity with SAP or Oracle systems is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with diverse audiences at various levels.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to build formal relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in working within a shared services or European team environment is a plus.
