Senior Animal Care Technician - Contract - Bay Area, CA

Primary Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for biology, be curious, have demonstrated skills in transgenic mouse lines management, and demonstrate a collaborative approach to scientific discovery.
Skills & Requirements:
- Degree in a life science field (e.g., Biology, Pharmacology, Veterinary Science).
- 10+ years of relevant experience in an industry setting
- AALAS certification (ALAT or higher) preferred
- Strong communication skills and accurate record-keeping skills
- Ability to be a team player who can work effectively both independently and as part of a larger group
The Senior Animal Care Technician's responsibilities will be:
- Maintain the highest standards of animal welfare and biosecurity.
- Maintain our animal colony by performing routine husbandry; cage changing, feeding and watering, and providing environmental enrichment
- Complete daily husbandry tasks including health checks, breeding, weaning, microchipping, tail collection, and special diets.
- Conduct animal health observations and basic health treatments.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, such as daily animal health check logs, room temperature/humidity readings, etc.
- Contribute to facility upkeep; perform cleaning and decontamination of animal holding and procedure rooms with excellent quality and rigor.
- Perform vivarium-based initiatives independently and guide other team members as needed.
- Assist with in vivo experiments by performing basic biomethodology (handling, restraint, body weight collection, weaning, genotyping) to contribute to ongoing scientific research.
- Follow all safety requirements and procedures, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.

Compensation:
- $45.00 - $55.00 Per Hour
