A vacancy has arisen for a Head of Medicinal Chemistry with an innovative pharmaceutical enterprise in Shanghai. The company, which commercialises life science research, is committed to the development of therapeutic monoclonal antibody and small molecule drugs and prides itself on having several research projects currently in the preclinical stage that own their rights of intellectual property. This vacancy is an exciting opportunity to work with a company whose core R&D and management team members are composed of senior executives and scientists from the United States and China, with extensive experience in world-class biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute overall chemistry plan to ensure robust support of company discovery and development portfolio.
  • Recruit high-quality chemistry personnel to support chemistry plan.
  • Oversee design and synthesis of small molecules to support all stages of discovery and lead optimization for preclinical programs.
  • Oversee both internal chemistry team and external preclinical chemistry resources.
  • Oversee patent landscape to ensure unique IP creation, subsequent filing of patents.
  • Communicate chemistry strategy and activities to senior management and Board of Directors regularly.
  • Serve as primary liaison with corporate partners on all issues related to medicinal chemistry.
  • Act as a company leadership member in areas including management, people development and resource allocation, etc.

Skills and Requirements:

  • PhD degree in organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry or related discipline
  • 15+ years of drug discovery experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • Previous work experience in small molecule drug discovery with a wide range of indications such as Oncology and Immunology
  • Proven leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively to scientific and non-scientific groups are required
  • Experience in developing successful collaborations with academic and business partners
  • Demonstrable multitasking, project management, and execution skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including communication, presentation, persuasion, and influence.
  • Good organisational skills, including efficiency, punctuality, and collaboration in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with computer skills, such as MS Office.
