Proclinical are recruiting an Executive Director Medicinal Chemistry for a biotech organisation. This role is on a permanent basis with the ability to work remotely from anywhere within the UK.


Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the distribution of lead and candidate milestones.
  • Guide various drug discovery programmes as the scientific lead, outlining and owning the target product profile (TPP).
  • Form solid relationships with the technology team as well as assume ownership of the company's vision to revolutionise drug discovery through the use of modern AI and ML approaches.
  • Collaborate with the VP, medicinal chemistry to consistently look for ways to improve the efficiency and methods facilitating project and portfolio delivery.
  • Offer guidance, cooperate with computational designers to set general methodical medicinal chemistry goals.
  • Other duties may be assigned to this role.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Educated to an advanced degree level with at least 12+ years of experience working at a pharma or biotech organisation in an influential medicinal chemist role.
  • Familiarity with guiding multidisciplinary small molecule drug discovery programs from hit selection through to candidate selection and profiling.
  • A motivated individual with the ability to make decisions.
  • Expertise on modern facets of small molecule optimisation which involves quality metrics, computer-aided drug design, the role of physiochemical properties in compound quality, comprehension of in vitro and in vivo PK studies and the key aspects that drive human dose.
  • Capable of embracing and promoting all facets of modern drug discovery technologies.
  • Able to implement and advocate algorithm-derived compound designs and the company's drug discovery philosophy.
  • Communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Acquaintance with data analysis workflows and using data analysis tools such as Spotfire.
  • Prior involvement in implementing data modelling approaches such as regression and/or classification methods.
  • Work well with others as well as independently.
  • Know-how in ADMET, computational chemistry or structural biology applications to contemporary drug discovery.
  • Experience with late pre-clinical teams.
  • Expertise on the process leading to a phase I reast asset as well as of QSPR approaches to exploit predictions of ADME properties.
  • Acquaintance with various target classes such as GPCRs, proteases, NHR, kinases.
