A leading pharmaceutical company is advertising a vacancy for a Director, Research & Development, based in their office in Reading. The organisation is known for their work in human food and dietary supplements. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a leading company that provides innovative and dynamic treatments to help patients with gut health, immune health, and overall wellbeing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the CEO to develop the overall Research and Development strategy and translate into an operational plan.
- Provide general scientific and organizational leadership to drive the R&D plan.
- Define and execute on the R&D plan by managing the hardware, software, chemistry and biology research efforts.
- Manage external collaboration sites and coordinate collaborator experimental plans with internal efforts to maximize collaborator contribution and the advancement of product development towards clinical use.
- Establish and manage 3rd party vendors and consultants, as needed, to support product development.
- Establish R&D budgets, schedules and objectives to achieve the Company's overall business goals and manage against approved projects.
- Supports the company's core values in building a culture of cooperation between teams and individuals.
- Designs and oversees pre-clinical and clinical experiments leading to the development of commercial prototypes and/or products.
- Works with the Head of Regulatory to adhere to the Quality System and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Reports on R&D strategy, progress and results to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Creates and delivers dynamic technical presentations to employees, management, Directors, investors, collaborators and others in support of growing the company and keeping abreast of relevant scientific developments.
- Serves as the subject matter expert for IP development, prosecution and management.
- Translating scientific outcomes into products and commercial opportunities
- Is a key member of the Executive Team.
Skills and Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering or other relevant field with history of scientific excellence and credibility or recognition within the scientific community.
- Extensive experience in academia and/or commercial industry in carbohydrate chemistry, microbiome research, or related fields.
- Experience in leading or participating to the design conduct and interpretation of clinical trials.
- Industry experience in prebiotic and supplement product development with a track record of successfully managing third parties to design and develop products.
- Experience working within the regulated product environment, including ISO and QMS systems (or equivalents) and active participation in FDA submissions and clinical study design.
- Strong analytical skills, especially with regard to understanding and interpreting scientific research and literature as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse data and plan for next steps.
- Ability to work in a small fast-paced, dynamic, collaborative, business-focused work environment and able to manage multiple projects within budget.
- Ability to manage working relationships and effectively communicate (orally and in writing) to scientists and non-scientists both internally and externally.
- Demonstrable multitasking, project management, and execution skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, including communication, presentation, persuasion, and influence.
- Good organisational skills, including efficiency, punctuality, and collaboration in a team environment.
- Proficiency with computer skills, such as MS Office.
