Proclinical is seeking a Senior Scientific Affairs Associate for a world leading biopharmaceutical company. The position of Senior Associate Scientific Affairs (SAF), within Europe, Middle East and Africa (EUMEA) functions as a valued member of the Global Medical Affairs team in a business office-based role. The successful candidate will support with scientific expertise the SAF team on scientific and diagnostic projects across the company franchise products and clinical development programs.

In particular, the successful candidate will contribute to establish and/or maintain scientific collaborative relationships with laboratory directors in the EUMEA region. The Senior Associate Scientific Affairs will also support the Global SAF team to maintain global operational activities' monthly tracking, publications and external communication plans and will provide training to internal personnel related to laboratory diagnostics best practice and guidelines.

For this role a clinical molecular genetic laboratory testing-based experience and/or genetic counselling experience is required. A level of JavaScript programming and database management is highly desirable. Excellent presentation, communication and project management skills and ability to travel are also a prerequisite.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and/or maintain scientific collaborative relationships with biochemical genetic diagnostic laboratories (includes travelling to local centres to meet laboratory directors).
  • Maintain and update the internal directory of diagnostic testing laboratories and inform about local diagnostic testing practice and assay methods.
  • Provide operational support to the SAF team in expert meeting/advisory board organization (manage external meeting vendors and participant contacts if needed).
  • Support the Global SAF team with maintenance of global operational activities monthly tracking, publications and external communication plans.
  • Manage SAF related activities, contracts and operating budget effectively with external vendors and researchers.
  • Offer in person and/or online presentations to educate internal company personnel on laboratory diagnostics best practice and guidelines.
  • Report and communicate effectively and in a timely fashion all laboratory testing activities and relevant scientific events to EUMEA and Global Scientific Affairs team.
  • Attend selected scientific regional and national meetings/conventions as necessary and relevant to company goals.
  • Attend internal Scientific Affairs, Medical Affairs and other corporate meeting as needed.
  • Maintain corporate compliance training requirements and adhere to internal compliance policies.
  • Develop and maintain excellent knowledge of company marketed and in-development products and of ongoing company sponsored studies. Maintain a solid understanding and knowledge of the product-relevant disease areas.


Skills and Requirements:

  • While the position is not laboratory and/or research-based, prior genetic testing lab-based experience as described below is needed.
  • Education minimum Master of Science level degree (preferred PhD level) in Molecular Biology and Genetics or Biochemistry or Bioinformatics related area of study.
  • Three years' minimum post-graduate experience, preferably in diagnostics or pharmaceutical companies and/or in public or commercial diagnostic service laboratories.
  • Practical experience with laboratory techniques such as: molecular testing methods used in clinical diagnostics (e.g. NGS, Sanger sequencing, RNA analysis, aCGH), familiarity with molecular data bases. Experience with biochemical enzyme assay, mass spectrometry for high throughput diagnostic test is preferred. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows environments and Office package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
  • Familiarity with Bioinformatics
  • JavaScript programming
  • Website and data base management
  • Excellent communication skills in English in written and spoken word.
  • Ability to travel up to ~70% (may include weekends) in Europe, Turkey, Middle East, and Russia and sometimes to US.
  • Skills in building relationships: collaborative and flexible in personal interactions at all levels of the company.
  • Ability to speak another language beside English (especially Russian, Arabic, Turkish or another EU language).
  • Experience in teaching and/or training
  • Experience in health informatics and/or epidemiology
  • Experience in technology transfer and validation
  • Experience in analogue position within Medical or Scientific Affairs departments
  • Experience in rare disease and genetics field
