What do the roles involve?

Quality control jobs vary from day to day, depending on the function and level of the role. However, all individuals are required to adhere primarily to the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, as well as Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards.

The typical responsibilities of a candidate employed in quality assurance are to provide GMP training regulations to employees, review and approve quality of documentation, maintain robust quality management systems (QMS), perform product quality reviews according to regulatory requirements, carry out failure investigations, put preventative actions in place, and perform audits to identify and solve non-compliance issues.

Generalist recruiters may not have an in-depth understanding of the complexities of these responsibilities and the necessary skills required. What do employers look for?

Candidates are required to be educated to degree level in a relevant scientific subject. Previous and significant pharmaceutical industry experience within a quality control role is often required. We know that significant manufacturing experience, knowledge of pharmaceutical GMP, and validation within quality assurance are also common requirements.

Along with this specialist experience, candidates looking for quality control roles should have a high level of verbal and written communication, strong interpersonal skills, meticulous attention to detail, and be extremely results driven and highly organised.
