Biometrics & Clinical Data Jobs

What is biometrics/clinical data?

Biometrics jobs involve collecting and analysing medical data to support the conception, design, conduct, analysis and reporting of a clinical study.

What do clinical data jobs involve?

Day-to-day responsibilities vary depending on the type and level of role. Typically, the day consists of preparing analysis plans, writing detailed specifications, checking for consistency and communicating with clients regarding any statistical analysis issues.

For instance, biostatisticians provide statistical support for clinical studies, from the conception stage right through to analysis and reporting. They work across all four phases of clinical development and must adhere to regulatory guidance. They often get involved in analysing efficiency and safety data, which is integrated across clinical studies as and when required.

Most companies look for candidates with an MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline. For more specialist roles such as programming, a BSc in Programming or similar degree is often desirable, if not essential. From our experience, a degree is not the only thing potential employers look for. Extensive biometrics experience and sound judgment to plan and meet goals are both sought after skills.
